About Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating is a form of central heating, that achieves indoor climate control for your home, work space or commercial property, creating ultimate thermal comfort utilising the mechanisms of conduction, radiation and convection.
Underfloor heating operates via circulating warm water through a series of continuous loops that are fitted below your flooring, which creates a large radiant surface area that heats your room from the floor surface upwards.
This form of radiant heating is significantly more comfortable for the occupant than common convected heat provided by radiators, which operate by drawing cold air across the floor, heating it and then followed by convecting it upwards towards the ceiling.
Benefits of Underfloor Heating
- Eco-friendly
- UFH is a vital element of the green revolution in contemporary heating solutions
- Requiring far lower water temperatures than conventional heating operating systems, UFH can be linked to a range of eco-friendly heat generators like solar panels and geo-thermal, ground and air heat pumps, which makes it the most natural partner for many heating solutions in the renewables sector
- Energy efficient
- Underfloor heating is the most energy efficient method of transferring heat into any given room, as it works by radiation, from the floor surface onto the other surfaces in the room, and then heating the airspace from there
- This method is a more natural form of heating and also requires lower flow temperatures due to its increased surface area
- UFH is approximately 25% more efficient than radiators
- Complete flexibility
- Due to UFH being hidden from sight, there is therefore nothing to hinder interior design – no unsightly, and often unsafe, radiators on walls, allowing for wall space to be completely maximised however you see fit!
- Flexible in terms of its control. Each of its heating zones has its own relevant thermostat, allowing you to set each and every room in your home or space, to the maximum comfort and efficiency as you choose
- Warm, heated floor
- An obvious but essential benefit – how it feels!
- Heat gently emitted upwards from the floor, makes normally cold floors warm to the touch
- Produces an even warmth, eradicating any cold spots or draughts that commonly occur with radiators
- Hidden heating solution
- ‘Invisible‘ as the system is hidden below the floor
- Freeing up wall space, but also allowing for ideal heating solutions for open plan living spaces and rooms such as kitchens, where space is at a real premium
- No maintenance
- After the successful installation and testing of your new UFH system, there is very little that can cause issues or go wrong – allowing for a more stress-free heating solution
- Greater performance
- When compared to conventional heat sources, UFH generates more radiant heat as opposed to convective heat
- Safer than conventional heating
- No exposed hot surfaces or sharp edges as we experience with conventional radiators, creating a safer option for young children and the elderly
- Perfect solution for allergy sufferers as it provides warmth that is free from draughts and dust movements that can aggravate conditions
Types of Underfloor Heating
- Warm water/wet Underfloor Heating
- This water-based method uses a series of pipes that connect to a boiler via a manifold, allowing a circulation of warm water throughout the floor to heat the space
- Suitable for most property types, whether it be brand new properties and developments or if you are undertaking a renovation
- Often the number one choice for individuals building their own home – simple, affordable and extremely efficient!
- Minimal disruption upon installation and can be installed on any floor of a property or building, from basements to loft conversions
- Electric Underfloor Heating
- In an electric system, we have a series of electric wires installed beneath or within your the flooring of your property, as a means of heating an area or room
- The specific type of electric underfloor heating recommended will depend on the size of the room, how well it is insulated and what the flooring is like
- Often chosen to heat smaller rooms with tiles, such as bathrooms, wet rooms or kitchen, for example
- Often a cheaper UFH option, allowing you to enjoy a high heat output to warm hard floor coverings, such as tiles
- Skirting Heating
- Ideal solution where underfloor heating is not an option
- Skirting boards that can heat your home, whilst being space and energy efficient. Perfectly designed to look just like a skirting board, invisibly integrating into the room, saving valuable wall space
- Underfloor Heating Thermostats
- Wide range of room temperature controls, providing you with the ultimate way to heat your home, office or commercial property (or indeed any property), both easily and efficiently
- Stylish, cutting edge range of controls of efficient heating controls, which allow for area zoning, can save up to 40% on energy bills
